On September 15, our students were blessed with a very special visit from a very special person! We had the incredibly great honor to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with His Eminence Wilton Cardinal Gregory, who presided over a beautiful bilingual Mass that showcased our diverse student population. Over 50 students representing 21 Hispanic countries participated in the Mass as altar servers, readers, gift bearers, ushers, flag bearers, and choir members. We were also joined by school families and other St. Martin parishioners. At the end of Mass, to thank him for celebrating with us, Cardinal Gregory was presented with an SMS sweatshirt with his name embroidered on it. His Eminence then came to the school to visit some of our classes, where he answered questions about Jesus, the Bible, his priesthood, and, of course, his birthday and his golf game! Our guests, clergy, faculty, and staff were also treated to a delicious feast organized and prepared by our wonderful parents. There were dishes and desserts from countries such as Venezuela, Paraguay, and El Salvador. It was undoubtedly a Hispanic-Heritage-Month kick-off that will always be remembered by our school and Church community alike here at St. Martin’s. We are truly blessed and extremely grateful!
